Frequently asked questions
If your question is not answered here, call us on 0451 115 196 or send an enquiry — we would rather have the conversation than have you guess.
Getting started
Do I need an NDIS plan to join?
Not for everything. Our kids' school holiday programs are open to any family and are booked and paid for privately. The 10-week baking program is designed for NDIS participants and is claimed through an NDIS plan. If you are unsure which one fits, call us and we will talk it through.
How do I enrol?
Send an enquiry through this website or give us a call. We will have a short conversation about who the program is for, what support they need and what they would like to get out of it, then confirm a place and send through the paperwork.
How big are the groups?
Groups are kept deliberately small so everyone gets hands-on time and individual attention. The NDIS baking course has a maximum of 10 participants per class.
What if we need to cancel?
For the NDIS course, please give us at least two clear business days' notice — for a Monday session, that means letting us know by the end of the Wednesday before. With less notice, we may claim the session from your plan, as the NDIS rules allow. The kids workshop is paid in advance and there are no refunds for change of mind. If we ever cancel a session ourselves, we will offer a make-up session or a refund. Full details are in our booking terms.
Is there a waiting list if a program is full?
Yes. Let us know you are interested and we will contact you first when a place opens or the next intake is scheduled.
NDIS and funding
How is the 10-week program funded?
It is a structured, time-limited program aimed at building practical independent living skills, which is the kind of support usually funded under community participation and capacity building categories. Which category applies depends on how your plan is written and what your goals are, so the most reliable answer comes from a quick conversation with us and your support coordinator or plan manager.
Do you work with plan-managed and self-managed participants?
Yes — plan-managed, self-managed and NDIA-managed participants are all welcome. We issue invoices in the format your plan manager needs.
I am a support coordinator. How do I refer someone?
Use the enquiry form and select "A support coordinator or referrer", or call us directly. We can send a service agreement, a session outline and the goals the program works toward before you commit a participant to a place.
Will I get progress notes?
Yes. We provide notes covering attendance, what was worked on and how the participant is tracking against their goals, so there is something concrete for plan reviews.
On the day
What should we bring?
Just yourselves and a container to carry things home. Aprons, ingredients, equipment and recipes are all provided.
Can a parent, carer or support worker stay?
Absolutely. Support workers and carers are welcome to stay and take part, and parents are welcome to watch. Tell us in advance so we can set the space up for the right number of people.
Are the sessions sensory-friendly?
They are designed to be. We keep group sizes small, manage noise, and adjust pace and support level to the people in the room. Tell us about sensory preferences when you enquire and we will plan around them.
What about allergies and dietary requirements?
Let us know when you book. We take allergies seriously and will confirm honestly whether we can safely accommodate a specific requirement in a shared kitchen before you commit to a place.
Where are the sessions held?
Both courses run at Helensvale Library & Cultural Centre, Gold Coast QLD.
Places in both programs are limited
Groups are kept small on purpose. If you are considering a spot, the earlier you get in touch the better.
